Welcome to the Hye Café!
Join us on the stone patio, under the cool canopy of trees, to enjoy a cup of Armenian coffee, kebabs or a friendly picnic. This is the vision that awaits the St. Sahag community.
The gateway to the back yard of our church, this new gathering place will enhance our outdoor festivals, bringing people together to celebrate Armenian heritage and culture during the glorious days we get to spend outside. As a rental space, the Hye Café will also create a new revenue stream to fund our mission.
A golden opportunity
This project has been a dream since we began hosting Armenian festivals ten years ago. The steep slope of our property makes little of the shaded area useable. The uneven ground is always muddy after a rain.
The adjacent sidewalks and steps are uneven, unsafe, and have no handrails. Despite the risk to children, elders, and people with mobility issues, the cost of landscaping put it out of reach—until now.
We’re delighted to announce that Jean Pierre Jacquet—the master stone carver who has done so much to restore St. Sahag—will lead the patio project in thanksgiving for our hospitality. Such a gift is rare and precious. Normally a project of this scope would easily be three times more expensive.
Where do we stand now?
- We have a master stone carver with the skills and equipment to complete the project this spring. The timing is right for summer and fall rentals, as well as Armenian Festival and children’s camp.
- Until we hire a new pastor-likely not before the snow this year—our budget is somewhat more flexible than usual.
- Several generous sponsors have already stepped forward with leadership gifts.
